Patternmakers and Textile Engineers, with well equipped woodworking and metalworking facilities in central Bradford.

  • Industrial Engineering

  Products & Services

Pattern equipment in wood, plastics and metal is produced for casting manufacture in foundries. Patterns or moulds are made for reinforced plastics or concrete and artificial stone production. Tools for vacuum-forming plastics film, for blister packaging, or for display requirements such as carpet sample books, are manufactured. Special projects, largely comprising difficult to place items, are made using the company's eclectic mix of equipment - for instance, the biggest zip fastener in the world (for Magnus Pike's TV programme), 2.5 metre diameter wooden paddle wheels, or architectural or decorative wooden artifacts.

Textile engineering

The speciality of the company is the manufacture of spiked and plain lattice conveyors, used in hopper feeders in the processing of textile fibres, and driving rollers for these lattices. A diverse range of bespoke parts, such as doffer brushes, opening rollers, etc., are made as required. Latterly, machinery and spare parts formerly manufactured by Petrie & McNaught, the Rochdale builder of wool scouring and drying machinery, and Pneumatic Conveyors, the Huddersfield builder of fibre blending machinery, is produced - the company holds the records, drawings and pattern equipment of these two companies.

Machine shop services

The company has a well equipped machine shop, with lathes capable of roller work up to 18' 6" between centres, milling machinery, radial drilling, slotting (keywaying) up to 16" through the bore, welding, bar straightening, etc.

Wood moulding

The company operates a wood moulding facility, comprising saws and a six-cutter moulder, for producing hardwood mouldings in a variety of industrial and/or decorative timbers. When mouldings are not required in large quantities and a small number of specially shaped wooden parts are required, these are made using the patternmaking facilities, of lathe turning, planing, milling, routering etc.

Conveyor belts

Conveyor belting of several types is held as roll stock for use in the company's own products and to produce simple belts for customers' diverse applications. Belts can be jointed longitudinally up to 4.5 metres wide in a press built for that purpose. Fitting services are undertaken. Accessories, such as belt fasteners of several types are held in stock and supplied as required.
